Pinterest challenge for august

hi guys, I'm back with my pinterest challenge project for august.
hm now do I call this august or july re-make?
if you follow my blog you will know I failed in july and just couldn't get my crochet bag right.
well, I no quitter!
I stuck with it and started again.
this time I changed to a smaller hook and read the pattern over and over and counted..... counted....and counted some more!
seriously, I can't tell you how important that counting is.
I'm so happy I stuck with it and my bag is now finished. yay!!!!
What do you think?
I'm over the moon with it and proud of myself for not giving up.
I've even made a lining for it. I used a pretty pillowcase and cut it to size.
then my dad gave me my mum's sewing machine and oh boy that was a whole new challenge of its own.
I haven't used a sewing machine since I was at school some 30 odd years ago.
I found a manual for the machine online which was a huge help.
I can't ask my mum to help me, even though she was always using her machine. she now has dementia so she can't teach me.
I did ok tho. LOL
the buttons came from woolwarehouse and so did the drops cotton yarn. it was only 80p for a 50g ball, what a bargain!
I need some more now.
note to santa.... I love all the colours!
(boy, I hope he reads my blog)
here are another couple of pictures of the bag.

I've bought some very thin 3ply cotton and started another bag, its coming out smaller and looks so cute.

here a sneak peek...

I'm loving the dusky pink colour.

I've found a cone of white cotton on ebay, its a bit grubby but was a great price so I'm going to chance making it then washing it.

question now is......

do I need to buy the black cotton for winter?
yes?
no?

leave a comment and let's have a vote.
at least I can blame my yarn addiction on you guys then and hubby might even forgive me. LOL

now back to the pinterest challenge...
please pop over to margarets blog and see what she has chosen to make for august.

Sweet as Sugar Nellie

yay its time for a new challenge over at sugar Nellie and here is my latest DT card

I've used one of my favorite sugar Nellie stamps which is also available as a digi.

she is coloured with copic markers.

I used MS flower punches to make the flowes and various dies for the leaves.

the kraft card was die cut with Simon says Stamp die called Falling Hearts, I love it!

the sentiment is a die set called Hello Words from paper smooches.
oh and how can I forget my newest die.... the faux stitches border die set by Lawn fawn which I purchased from  www.Craftstash.co.uk
If you haven't used this site before pls check them out, they have some great offers and delivery was superfast!

watch out for my faux stitched borders because they will appear on a few more cards very soon. there are four borders in the set.

ok, so now its your turn, anything goes as long as you use a sugar Nellie image for this challenge.

enter your cards here

good luck and i'm looking forward to visiting some of your blogs to see what you have created.

Sugar Nellie Challenge

Hi Guys,
Its time for another challenge over at the Sugar Bowl

anything goes again and all you have to do is use a Sugar Nellie Image.
Thats soooo easy because there are so many to choose from.

I love them all.

Here is what I chose this time....

This is from the Autumn kit at Funky Kits. I just love her!
I've used my Derwent Inktense pencils to colour the image on the card.
Look how 'intense' those colours are.

I know I'm a pen and pencil addict but how can I not be with colours like this.

But I didn't finish there...
I decided to get out the skink plastic and stamp her again to make a little charm.
how tiny is she now!

here's a better look at the charm.
I coloured her with copics but if I can give you one little tip it would be to colour the shrink plastic
in lighter colours than you actually want because they will become darker when you shrink it.

I made a couple of acorns with the plastic aswell and added a couple of leaves which I bought from ebay some time ago.
(I knew I needed them for...something)!

Hope you like this as much as I liked making it and if you haven't tried shrink plastic yet, give it go...its so much fun.

you can find the Autumn stamp collection here

I hope you will come and join us at the sugar bowl so we can see all your creations too.

thanks for visiting my blog and I'd love it if you could leave a comment to say Hi and let me know you have been here today.

Hugs Suzanne x

Pinterest project for July

Hi guys, some of you will know that my new years resolution for 2015 was to make pinterest project per month and I promised to blog what ever I chose even if it didn't go to plan.

well guess what?

this is one of those times!

I chose a gorgeous CAL bag to make.

you can find the pattern here

It looks great doesn't it.

I headed over to wool warehouse and ordered some lovely cotton yarn at a bargain price of 80p for 50g balls.

I treated myself to a good quality clover hook too and this was a wise choice, it made things much easier. Its surprising what a good hook can do.

So I settled myself down nice and comfy and watched the first part of the video tutorial which was amazing.
I got to work and was feeling really pleased with myself....

the bag was coming along nicely,  but......

look how big it is!
I think I must crochet pretty loose or something because It's a huge bag.

so.......

I took it all apart!
I think this is called 'froggin' in the crochet world, I have no idea why.
I could be wrong so leave me a comment if you know better. I'd love to know.

Well I do love the pattern and I'm not the sort of person to give up too easily so I asked for advice in the CAL group on facebook and the ladies were amazing. thank you guys!

They told me to try using a smaller hook......

and the squares came out much smaller.

the stitches look closer together too so I was happy again....

BUT...

I tried to be 'too' clever and I think its now too small.
I only used two squares instead of the three that the pattern requires. this means I had to change the amount of stitches and the size of the base....

oh boy what a headache!

the old saying about learning to walk before you run keeps coming into my head.
why do I have to mess with things and try to be too smart.
when will I learn to slow down?

The buttons I had bought were perfect for the pattern....

until I changed the pattern!

(smart ass)

the buttons are now too big.....
OR
the bag is too small?

so guess what?

Yep....

frogging it again!

Pinterest July project is my first fail.

Now I really must add the fail is my own stupid fault and its not Rebecca's pattern.
the pattern is great!

It was me trying to run...

BUT...

watch this space because I will be back with the finished bag. I'm not going to give up.
I love the pattern...
I love the FB group...
I love the cotton yarn...
I love my new posh hook...
I DONT love my smart arse brain that told me to change the pattern. grrr I'm such an idiot!

apologies to Rebecca for messing up her bag.
I promise I will follow the instructions properly this time and just change the hook size.
(aww does that mean I get to buy another posh hook in a smaller size)?
there is a sliver lining after all!

Please check out Rebecca's blog and FB page to see all the amazing bags and gorgeous colour combo's that everyone has been making.
I'm in awe of all you clever ladies out there.

(hangs head in shame)

BUT...
practice makes perfect...right?

My friend Margaret kindly joined in with the pinterest monthly challenge with me and I'm sure she will make something gorgeous again this month.
she is so talented.
please hop over to margaretsdesignercards.BlogSpot
to see what she has created.

I feel like a total failure but I did say at the start of the year that I would blog even if it was a total fail.
FAIL it is but this isn't the end of the story...
in the words of Arnie....
'I'll be back'
(putting on my best Arnie accent)
hmm that's possibly my second fail LOL

thanks for stopping by and please leave me a commnet to let me know you were here.
If you are a crochet'er (what is a crochet person called)?
and you know about 'froggin' please leave me a comment to explain it.
thanks again

hugs Suzanne xx
